The National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology (Inameh) predicts rain in several regions of the country for Monday, October 21. The institution highlighted the possibility of storm activity in Greater Caracas.

For the Capital District and the states of Miranda and La Guaira, Inameh predicts partial cloudiness in the morning hours, as well as precipitation and storms in the afternoon hours. The entity added that temperatures in the city of Caracas will range between 17 and 27 degrees Celsius.

The first Inameh bulletin for the day indicates that in the first hours of the day there will be fragmented cloudiness alternating with partial cloudiness in the states of Amazonas, Portuguesa, Apure, Barinas, Táchira, Mérida and Zulia.

The institution explained that for the afternoon and evening hours, a progressive increase in cloudiness is expected, as well as rain with electrical activity in much of the national territory.

“Being more intense and frequent in areas of our Guayana Esequiba, Delta Amacuro, Sucre, Monagas, Anzoátegui, Bolívar, Amazonas, Miranda, La Guaira, Capital District, Aragua, Carabobo, Yaracuy, Barinés foothills, Falcón, Lara, the Andes and Zulia,” he added.

Activity in the Caribbean Sea

The expert pointed out that tropical wave number 45 is moving through northern Colombia, but with an impact on western Venezuela.

He also highlighted the presence of a trough in the eastern Caribbean and the presence of tropical wave number 46 over French Guiana. These two phenomena would be “modulating the convergence of winds and humidity in the country.

Regarding the waves on the country’s coasts, the Name predicts storm surges in much of the coastal area.

The institution indicated that hours of up to one meter will be witnessed in the Orinoco Delta, the eastern coast, central coast, western coast and in the island area. The waves could increase up to 1.5 meters in the Gulf of Venezuela area.

Rains caused flooding in the Capital District and Miranda

Users on social networks reported that the rains recorded during the afternoon of Sunday, October 20, caused flooding in areas of the Capital District such as Quinta Crespo, Coche, El Valle, Capitol, Propatria, El Paraíso, Bello Monte, among others.

In the state of Miranda, rainfall was also recorded in different sectors such as Las Mercedes, Prados del Este, as well as the Pan-American Highway, where the rains caused traffic chaos due to flooding on the roads.

People also warned that a landslide occurred at kilometer 2, at the height of the walkway in the direction of San Antonio de los Altos.

A landslide also occurred in La Guaira, which caused the debris to reach the Caracas-La Guaira highway.
