Sisi calls for reviewing Egypt’s agreement with the International Monetary Fund

President Sisi said, in statements during his participation in the World Conference on Population, Health and Human Development on Sunday, that Egypt implemented an economic reform program in 2016, in which it succeeded with its efforts.

Al-Sisi stated, “The current program is being implemented under very difficult regional and international circumstances. “It has very negative effects on the whole world, and there is a possible economic recession in the next few years.”

He added: “We are part of the world economy, and our program must take into account the challenges and say that we have lost 7 to 8 billion dollars during the past 10 months, and this matter is likely to continue for the next year as a result of the repercussions,” adding that the position on the agreement must be reviewed if the current situation remains. It will cause pressure on public opinion that people cannot bear.

The Egyptian President spoke about the crises that his country has faced in recent years, and said that Egypt “has experience in dealing with the crisis and how to turn it into a grant.”

He noted the situation that followed the revolution of January 25, 2011, and stated that Egypt emerged from 2011 in a difficult economic situation and a state of security instability. As a result of extremism and terrorism, he said, “The country was in a state of chaos, and whoever sees the challenges and crises that existed at that time; “He feels there is no solution to it.”

He stressed that “crises provide real opportunities for real success by challenging them and finding solutions to them,” and that Egypt has pursued two important strategies in this regard: mixing parallel, integrated, and overlapping solutions to deal with different issues, in addition to maintaining goals.

President Sisi stressed that, “No matter what obstacles the state faces, we are keen to preserve the goals of the state and the government.”

He described the infrastructure in Egypt as “not modest, but rather backward,” adding that the Egyptian state made great efforts to develop infrastructure, in order to overcome the state it was in, and has now reached 22nd place in the world in terms of infrastructure.

Al-Sisi criticized the fact that some people overlooked the efforts made by the government and focused on the “economic crisis,” saying, “Many people think that the economic crisis is a topic of interest, which makes many people ignore the amount of effort, success, and achievement that has been made in all aspects of the Egyptian state.”

He pointed out that the state has implemented a complete infrastructure, ports, airports, a road network, and a modern railway network powered by electric power.

He continued: “Despite the economic challenge that existed from 2011 onwards and the war on terrorism, we moved with a plan in which we maintained our goals and insisted on achieving them.”

He pointed out that Egypt had previously suffered from a “high unemployment rate,” saying that the number of graduates in Egypt from various universities, schools, and institutes ranged between 800,000 to one million. This requires the state to provide between 700 thousand and one million job opportunities annually.

He explained that the population of the Egyptian people in 2011 was 80 million, and has now risen to 106 million, with an unemployment rate of 6.5%, which means “providing job opportunities to confront unemployment, which was worked well within the framework of establishing the infrastructure of the Egyptian state until it overcomes the situation it was in.” .
