The government resorts to importing slaughtered meat from more than 14 countries

The government decided to resort to importing slaughtered meat from several countries, in light of the continued rise in the price of red meat, which continues to hover above 100 dirhams.

In this context, the National Office for Health Safety of Food Products, today, Tuesday, specified the list of countries from which red meat will be imported, and the conditions followed in that regard.

This step comes less than a week after a meeting between the government and the Moroccan Confederation of Agriculture and Rural Development, during which several measures were agreed upon, including the import of red meat to relieve pressure on the national herd.

Regarding the list of countries from which fresh red meat is allowed to be imported, whether chilled or frozen, it includes the European Union countries, Albania, Andorra, Argentina, Australia, Canada, Chile, the United States, Britain, New Zealand, Russia, Serbia, Singapore, Switzerland, and Uruguay, for sheep and goat meat.

As for beef, the National Office for Health Safety of Food Products revealed that it will be imported from the aforementioned countries, in addition to Brazil, Ukraine and Paraguay, indicating the possibility of making an amendment to the list of countries in the event that a health risk to humans or animals arises in connection with the import of the aforementioned products. To her.

The UNSA office stipulated that all imported meat be accompanied by a health certificate issued by the competent authorities in the country of origin, in addition to a “Halal” certificate issued by the Islamic Authority in that country.

The government’s resort to importing slaughtered meat comes in light of the high prices, which have reached unprecedented levels, causing discontent among citizens affected by the deterioration of their purchasing power.
