Chiefs defeat 49ers in final rematch

The Chiefs won the final rematch even though their star quarterback Patrick Mahomes didn’t shine: For only the second time in his career, Mahomes failed to throw a touchdown pass in two consecutive games, and one of his passes was intercepted twice.

“We had a lot of turnovers, mostly my fault,” said Mahomes. “But that also shows the versatility of our team. It’s not just about me, it’s about playing team football.”

The Chiefs scored all four touchdowns after a running game; Kansas City last achieved this in a play-off game in 2018. At the beginning of the fourth quarter, Mahomes also took a 21:12 lead; before that, Kareem Hunt ran the ball into the end zone twice.

Pearsall makes his debut after being shot

It was a special game for Ricky Pearsall. The 49ers receiver made his NFL debut after being shot and hit in the chest during an attempted robbery 50 days earlier. “After all the adversity I’ve overcome in the last month, this means everything to me,” Pearsall said of his debut performance, in which he caught three passes from Brock Purdy. The San Francisco quarterback had three interceptions – one more than his counterpart Mahomes.

Lions inflict Vikings first loss

The Minnesota Vikings suffered their first defeat of the season with a 29:31 against Super Bowl contender Detroit Lions, making the Chiefs the only undefeated team. Thanks to a field goal from kicker Jake Bates shortly before the end of the sixth game, the Lions took their fifth win and pushed the Vikings out of the top spot in the NFC North division.

In another top game, the Green Bay Packers also won against the Houston Texans 24:22 thanks to a field goal shortly before the end and inflicted their second defeat of the season on quarterback CJ Stroud’s team. The Packers now also have a record of 5:2 wins, but are only third behind Detroit and Minnesota in what is probably the strongest division.

Wilson’s successful Steelers debut

In the AFC North Division, the Pittsburgh Steelers took the lead with a 37:15 win against the New York Jets. The previously injured Russell Wilson threw two touchdown passes in his debut in a Steelers jersey and thus won the quarterback duel with Aaron Rodgers. The Jets veteran recorded one touchdown but two interceptions.

The Indianapolis Colts with Austrian offensive line player Bernhard Raimann celebrated a 16:10 home win against the Miami Dolphins. The Colts didn’t exactly delight their fans with many successful offensive moves during quarterback Anthony Richardson’s comeback, but because the Dolphins offense couldn’t get up to speed without quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, who was still injured, they managed their fourth win in three defeats.
