Wild incident between Konstantopoulos and Bakoyannis: “Do you know how many female ND MPs complain?”

A wild episode between Zoe Konstantopoulou and Dora Bakoyannis “marked” among other things the meeting of the Conference of Presidents in the Parliament last week.

Why is it possible that the president of Freedom of Navigation, Zoe Konstantopoulou, came into tension with the president of the Parliament, Costas Tasoula, annoyed with the representation of the independent MPs by Michalis Khourdakis, yet the “storms” at the Conference of Presidents arose during her conflict with Dora Bakoyannis.

The reason was Mrs. Konstantopoulou’s objection regarding the proposal to turn off the microphones in the Parliament, when the MPs exceed the time during their speeches.

In fact, he emphasized that this tactic happens par excellence in Freedom Sailing itself, citing elements of sexism, as she is the only female party leader.

“You have implemented a terrifying practice, which is the closing of the microphones when the Opposition disturbs, the closing of the microphones, which applies only to the Opposition and above all to the Freedom Movement and to me personally, as the only female Leader – because it also involves sexism this practice of yours – we have to denounce that it is an anti-democratic practice, a practice of censorship”, noted, among other things, the president of Plefsis Eleftherias.

“If they come and cry to you, you can invite them”
Her statements provoked the strong reaction of Mrs. Bakoyannis, who, taking the floor, said: “For God’s sake! I confess that I find it difficult to understand, it is every time that any disagreement with Ms. Konstantopoulou is translated into sexism. That is, I am a woman, I have fought all my life against sexism, but not every disagreement or every remark towards Mrs. Konstantopoulou can be interpreted as a policy against women. Mercy, Mr. President, now! There are some limits. We women have fought too many battles for our equality. If we go to the other extreme, we end up doing an injustice to the fight we have made.”

In response, Mrs. Konstantopoulou invoked female MPs from the ND. “Do you know how many women in your party complain about how you treat them? How many women in your party complain, do you know? Do you have any idea how many are coming to me?’

“Mrs. Konstantopoulou, if the women of my party come to you and cry, you can always invite them,” added Mrs. Bakoyannis.

“These ratings are for the coffee shop”
Despite the interventions of Mr. Tasoula, the controversy took on new dimensions and for the reports about fascism and the junta.

“Patience has never been within my qualifications and I am not prepared to hear these characterizations of the President of the Hellenic Parliament or the Hellenic Parliament from people, who in any case have an opinion about the dictatorship, but which dictatorship some people older we have fought in practice. It is no longer possible, Mr. President, for New Democracy to accept this barbarism and it is not possible for us to accept it. These designations have a place within the coffee shop. Within the Hellenic Parliament, words matter and characterizations matter. And these characterizations by New Democracy are not accepted”, said Dora Bakoyannis for her part.

“Come, come! We are a Conference of Presidents, we are not parliamentary control,” said Mr. Tasoulas, with spirits calming down, when Apostolos Vesyropoulos, president of the Standing Committee of the Parliament, took the floor.
