Zakynthos: The Shipwreck is granted to the municipality – Projects worth 370 million euros

The visit took place within the framework of the National Strategy for Regional and Local Development. Kontogeorgis, announced the “concession of the management of the Shipwreck to the Municipality of Zakynthos”.

In a meeting of the government echelon with all the productive bodies of Zakynthos, at the island’s Intellectual Center, announcements and positions were made on the entire government work on problems concerning the prefecture of Zakynthos and especially on a network of issues such as those of financing, the port, the Shipwreck, sewage networks, waste, agricultural, Hospital, public property, urban planning and cultural heritage.

“The management of the Shipwreck is granted to the Municipality of Zakynthos by the government” announced the Deputy Minister in addition to the Prime Minister Th. Kontogeorgis, while he then added that “the revenue from the tourist exploitation of the Shipwreck will be mostly returned to the Municipality, while a smaller part will attributed to OFYPEKA and the Ministry of National Economy and Finance. The maturation of the project has been undertaken by TAIPED, which is already proceeding with the necessary permits, so that the implementation of the restoration projects can begin at the beginning of the new year”.

The Deputy Minister of the Interior V. Spanakis announced a series of funding for projects and interventions of the Municipality, totaling 20 million euros. For the port of Zakynthos, the managing director of TAIPED, D. Politis, announced the securing of funding for its dredging projects, which will begin immediately. TAIPED has undertaken the updating of the Master Plan as well as the Strategic Environmental Impact Study (SES) which is now necessary for the approval of the Port Development and Location Plan. In fact, the submission of a licensing request for a floating marina, which will be available in the summer, was announced.

M. Themistokleous announced the announcement of positions for medical and nursing staff for the Zakynthos Hospital and X. Kella announced the release of the agricultural cooperatives from the commitments of the “red loans” of the past, with the return of the reserved VAT numbers to the cooperatives and the issuance of operating license for new slaughterhouses to the Municipality which will allow the latter to proceed with their immediate announcement.

On behalf of the local authorities, the representatives of the government were welcomed by the MP D. Aktypis, the mayor G. Stasinopoulos and the regional governor of the Ionian Islands G. Trepeklis. In their speeches, MP D. Aktypis defended the efforts made in recent years to resolve the problems of the last decades and thanked Mr. Kontogeorgis for the coordination and organization of the mission of the government echelon.

The mayor of Zakynthos was also appointed in a similar way, while the regional governor of the Ionian Islands announced the start of work on the creation of the waste processing plant in Liva. On the topic of waste management, the general secretary M. Grafakos presented the overall plan for waste management with the implementation of important projects that are already underway. The water management studies are prepared by EYDAP and after their completion the estimated cost of the interventions will be determined. Mr. Stergiou, president of EYDAP referred to the upgrading of the operation of the Biological and the limitation of the problems in the river of Agios Charalambis to add that in the area of ​​Tsilivi it ​​will be necessary to create a new wastewater treatment unit.
