INDONESIA is hosting the 2025 Artistic Gymnastics World Championships which will take place in October 2025. The Executive Board of the Indonesian Gymnastics Association (PB Persani) has prepared 10 male and 10 female athletes each for selection.

This is the first time Indonesia has hosted the Federation Internationale de Gymnastique (FIG) world championship. Of the 20 athletes selected, three male and three female athletes will be selected to participate in the competition. This was conveyed by the General Chairperson of PB Persani Ita Yuliati at the launch of the logo for the 2025 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships at the Ministry of Youth and Sports office, Jakarta, Wednesday (16/10).

“To prepare athletes, we will carry out a training camp in Japan. We are preparing 10 men and 10 women for selection. However, two men and two women will go to Japan, the rest will train in Indonesia with coaches imported from Japan,” said Ita.

“This championship is limited by each country being able to only send three male and three female athletes,” he added.

Regarding the implementation, the venue chosen was the Indonesia Arena which is located in the Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) complex, Jakarta. According to Ita, finding a venue that fits the regulations for organizing matches is challenging because the venue must meet FIG standards.

PB Persani will use the world championship as a test event and benchmark for the position of Indonesian athletes on the world competition stage. The federation’s big goal in the future is to qualify athletes for the 2028 Olympics through the qualification route. At the 2024 Olympics, Indonesia made history by passing Rifda Irfanalutfhi through the host reallocation route.

Chairman of the Indonesian Olympic Committee, Raja Sapta Oktohari, said that holding the world championships was an opportunity to stimulate gymnastics in the country. As one of the mothers of sports, said Okto, developing gymnastics is still a collective homework.

“This world championship is a very valuable moment, it must be maximized. Because everyone is watching, not just Jakarta and Indonesia, but the eyes of the world are watching,” said Okto. (M-3)
