2024-10-18 08:55:00

On the occasion of World Menopause Day, which concerns 14 million women in France, the Ministry of Health and Access to Care announces the launch of a parliamentary mission on menopause, entrusted by the Prime Minister to Ms. Stéphanie Rist, MP and member of the Social Affairs Committee of the National Assembly.

Ms. Geneviève Darrieussecq, Minister of Health and Access to Care, declares:

“I want to make women’s health a priority of my action. The mission entrusted today by the Prime Minister to MP Stéphanie Rist should allow us to identify concrete solutions to better inform, better monitor and better care for women affected by menopause. »

The lack of knowledge which can sometimes affect the specificities linked to women’s health, including that of menopause, leads to a delay in diagnosis and delayed therapeutic treatment, leading to loss of opportunities, or a failure to take into account bothersome symptoms or even disabling.

This mission should make it possible to bring out concrete proposals to enrich the roadmap of the Ministry of Health and Access to Care, and of the entire Government, to improve women’s health.

Also, it will have to respond to three main issues:

Highlight the symptoms and consequences of menopause on the daily life and physical and mental health of women – 87% of menopausal women present at least one symptom of menopause in addition to the cessation of periods, 20% to 25% of them suffer from severe disorders which affect their quality of life; Strengthen the preventive approach to identify relevant actions in terms of awareness and health promotion as well as all recommendations whose strengthening or development would be useful; Enlighten the Government on current health care for menopausewhether on medical or non-medical solutions provided to women or on the role of all health professionals who can contribute to them. At the same time, the High Authority for Health was contacted by the Ministry of Health and Access to Care to update its opinion on the indications for hormone replacement treatments in the light of scientific and therapeutic developments in this field.

This mission will focus on highlight difficulties and share effective actions to improve the daily lives and health of menopausal women. It will be carried out by involving all stakeholders, in particular the National College of French gynecologists and obstetricians, other learned societies of specialist or general professionals, as well as the Study Group on Menopause and Hormonal Aging (GEMVI).

The proposals that will be drawn from this mission are expected in spring 2025.
