Chairman of the Corruption Eradication Commission, Nawawi Pomolango, stated that the formation of the National Police Corruption Eradication Corps (Kortastipidkor) was proof that the Bhayangkara Corps was serious about taking part in efforts to eradicate corruption.
“If there are other task forces that are formed and are intended as part of efforts to eradicate corruption, of course it can be seen as an effort and spirit to eradicate corruption in the institution or agency in question,” said Nawawi in his statement in Jakarta, today.
Nawawi also said that the formation of the new Polri corps would not overlap with the duties of the Corruption Eradication Commission.
According to Article 43 paragraph (2) of Law Number 31 of 1999 concerning the Eradication of Corruption Crimes and Article 6 in conjunction with Article 8 and Article 10 of Law Number 19 of 2019 concerning the Corruption Eradication Commission, mandates the Corruption Eradication Committee as the coordinator and supervisor in the conception of eradicating corruption in Indonesia.
“It has no influence on the role and authority of the Corruption Eradication Commission as coordinator and supervisor of efforts to eradicate corruption,” he said.
Nawawi also added that the most important thing is that the concept of eradicating corruption must have direction and strategy, not be packaged in the form of partial policies and without sufficient juridical, sociological and philosophical studies.
“As a coordinator and supervisor in the concept of eradicating corruption in this country, of course in the future the Corruption Eradication Committee hopes that every policy that is prepared or formed can continue to involve the Corruption Eradication Commission in it,” he said.
President Joko Widodo on Tuesday (15/10) signed Presidential Regulation (Perpres) Number 122 of 2024 concerning the Fifth Amendment to Presidential Regulation Number 52 of 2010 concerning the Organizational Structure and Work Procedures of the National Police. This Presidential Decree, especially Article 20A, is the legal basis for the formation of Kortastipidkor Polri.
“Kortastipidkor is an element implementing the main tasks in the field of eradicating criminal acts of corruption which is under the Chief of Police,” reads the article.
Kortastipidkor, as regulated in Presidential Decree 122/2024, is tasked with assisting the National Police Chief in developing and carrying out prevention, inquiry and investigation in the context of eradicating criminal acts of corruption and money laundering from criminal acts of corruption, and tracing and then securing assets resulting from criminal acts of corruption.( Ant/P-2)
