Mikati asks the Foreign Ministry to summon the Chargé d’Affaires of the Iranian Embassy in Beirut in protest against Qalibaf’s statements

Mikati asked the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Abdullah Bu Habib, to summon the Chargé d’Affairs of the Iranian Embassy in Beirut and inquire from him about the statement of the Speaker of the Iranian Parliament, Muhammad Baqir Qalibaf, that Tehran is ready to negotiate with France regarding the implementation of Lebanon“>UN Security Council Resolution 1701.
Mikati asked the Foreign Minister to inform the Iranian Chargé d’Affairs of the Lebanese position in this regard and that it is a Lebanese right only, and Beirut also rejects any imposed guardianship.

Mikati was surprised by Baqir Qalibaf’s speech, and said: “We are surprised by this position, which constitutes a scandalous interference in Lebanese affairs, and an attempt to establish an unacceptable guardianship over Lebanon, knowing that we had informed the Iranian Foreign Ministry and the Speaker of the Shura Council during their recent visits to Lebanon of the necessity of understanding the Lebanese situation, especially since Lebanon It is being subjected to unprecedented Israeli aggression, and we are working with all of Lebanon’s friends, including France, to pressure Israel to cease fire.”
Mikati continued, “The subject of negotiations to implement International Resolution No. 1701 is undertaken by the Lebanese state, and everyone is required to support it in this direction, not to seek to impose new mandates that are rejected by all national and sovereign considerations.”

Qalibaf announced in an interview with “Le Figaro” that Tehran is ready to negotiate with Paris regarding the implementation of Resolution 1701, which stipulates the deployment of the Lebanese army only in the south.

From Geneva, Qalibaf said: We believe that Iran will be ready to negotiate concretely the procedures for implementing Resolution 1701 with France, which will act as a mediator between the Lebanese faction movement and Israel.

He continued, saying: “There is no Israel, but only the Zionist regime, which is nothing but the armed arm of the United States, and with which there is no point in talking… However, we see a faint light at the end of the tunnel, as Iran is ready to negotiate with France, the country that traditionally protects Lebanon. On the concrete conditions for implementing UN Resolution 1701.”
