The teenager, who was driving behind some cars, was apparently overlooked by a 61-year-old driver who turned onto Deferegger Landesstraße (L 25) around 6:30 p.m. As the Tyrol State Police Department reported on Sunday, the 16-year-old was taken to the hospital by emergency helicopter.
The moped driver was heading towards Lienz, the car driver was heading in the opposite direction. He had moved into the left-turn lane and stopped because of oncoming traffic. The 16-year-old was also driving behind the oncoming cars. In the course of the head-on collision, the young person was thrown from his motorized bicycle and ended up lying on the road a few meters away, seriously injured. The driver of the car and an 85-year-old woman riding in the passenger seat remained uninjured. All three people have Austrian citizenship. According to the police, there was significant damage to the two vehicles involved in the accident.
