The General Election Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) of Tasikmalaya City, West Java, admitted that it had not received a report regarding the alleged distribution of basic necessities and the involvement of children by the Tasikmalaya Mayor-Deputy Mayor candidate pair.

The Tasikmalaya City Pilkada was attended by 5 pairs of candidates. During the campaign period, several candidate pairs distributed basic food packages to the public in the form of cooking oil, rice, instant noodles and others. Children are also involved in the campaign.

However, from the search results, the candidate pair who most often provides basic necessities is Muhammad Yusuf-Hendro Nugraha with serial number 3. Unfortunately, this practice escapes supervision from Bawaslu at the sub-district level.

Toto, 56, a resident of Sambongjaya, said that the candidate pairs for Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Tasikmalaya were all visiting the village. They also distributed basic food packages to the community in the hope that they would be supported and chosen. The candidates also still involve children.

“We ask Panwascam members in each region to carry out their supervisory duties correctly and objectively. Because, during the campaign, the Tasikmalaya Mayor-Deputy Mayor candidate pair always involves children, including distributing basic necessities to ask for support,” he said, Sunday (20 /10).

Meanwhile, the Coordinator of the Prevention, Community Participation and Public Relations Division of Bawaslu for Tasikmalaya City, Enceng Fuad Syukron, said that he had not received reports of the distribution of basic necessities and the involvement of children in the campaign.

“The distribution of basic necessities and money and other materials are considered violations. We have not received a report from Panwascam. Bawaslu is trying to prevent campaign violations by candidate pairs,” he stressed.

According to him, the distribution of basic necessities, money and the involvement of children in this stage of the regional elections is prohibited. If Bawaslu receives the report, it will be held in plenary and coordinated with the KPU.

“Based on the Panwascam report, all candidate pairs have distributed basic necessities. We will continue to monitor them so that the rules are not violated,” he said.
