the alarm goes off – Time

An attack that seems to be a response to Israel’s “targeted” raids to hit the leaders of Hamas and Hezbollah. The office of the Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, confirmed that the prime minister’s private residence in Caesarea was targeted this morning by a drone attack from Lebanon and specified that Netanyahu and his wife Sara were not at home at the time of the attack and there were no injuries in the incident. The Times of Israel reports it. Previously the IDF reported that 3 drones were launched this morning from Lebanon against Israel and one of these hit a building in Caesarea, while the other 2 were intercepted. The IDF added that it was these drones that set off the sirens in the Tel Aviv area and that the army is ruling out an attack in the capital area.

The Ynet newspaper reports the testimonies of some residents, who underline that a strong explosion was heard but the alarms had not been triggered. “People started going to the synagogue, a very loud bang was heard in the area. How is it possible that there wasn’t an alarm? The drone entered here,” said Yael, a resident. “We heard a huge explosion here, something very loud. Luckily there were no casualties,” said Alon, a resident of Caesarea. While another resident, Cheki Levy, who lives near the site of the attack, said: “It was early in the morning, there was no alarm and there was a very loud bang, it was very strange. Then we heard helicopters and many rescue forces, we knew he was here.”

The drones launched against Israel come amid an escalation in the final weeks of the war between Israel and the Lebanese Hezbollah, allies of Hamas and supported by Iran. Hezbollah said on Friday it plans to launch a new phase of fighting by sending more guided missiles and explosive drones towards Israel. The Lebanese group’s longtime leader, Hassan Nasrallah, was killed in an Israeli airstrike in Beirut on September 27, and Israel sent ground troops to Lebanon in early October. There is also an ongoing standoff between Israel and Hamas in Gaza: both have shown resistance to ending the war after the killing of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar. Today the Iranian Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, declared that Sinwar’s death was a painful loss, but underlined that Hamas has continued despite the killing of other Palestinian militant leaders before him: «Hamas is alive and he will stay alive,” Khamenei said.
