Supermarket: Price reductions of up to 17% on basic items

This is yet another weapon in the battle against punctuality, coming back with a different twist, to bring relief to households. The initiative to reduce prices by at least 5% for a period of two months, which comes after the call addressed by the Minister of Development, Takis Theodorikakos, to industries and supermarkets in early August, is optional.

Gradually

According to information from “ET”, in the first phase lower prices were announced for around 70 products, although the initial target that had been set was 100. However, in the next period, other supply companies are expected to follow due to the intense competition . The fact that every two weeks new codes should be added to the list of discounted items, retail executives estimate that by the end of the year the products that will be sold cheaper will reach 800.

What was surprising was the move by the supermarkets to participate in the effort to de-escalate inflation, themselves proceeding with price reductions in accordance with the codes given by the industries.

“Suppliers have reduced prices from 5% to 11%, and to this percentage is added the supermarkets, which mostly range from 2%-3%”, he says to “ET”. senior executive of the organized food retail industry.

The list

The list of products has already been sent to the Ministry of Development for further control, and in the coming days official announcements are expected regarding the companies participating in the measure, as well as the codes with the discount rates, which they committed to maintain for at least two months.

The products

The biggest price reduction, amounting to 17.2%, is recorded in tomato pastes, specifically tomato passata of a well-known brand, which from 1.16 euros is now sold at 0.96 euros per 520 gram package. Olive oil from a large company is also available at a lower price from 14.30 euros to 13.40 euros per liter, with the percentage of the reduction being 6.3%.

The list of products that will be sold cheaper in the next two months also includes dairy products, such as milk, yogurts and cheeses, with the percentage of the discount being 6%-7%.

For example, a liter of highly pasteurized milk of a well-known company which is currently sold at 1.67 euros per liter with a reduction of 6%, its price will be 1.57 euros and if the reduction is 7% it will further decrease to 1, 55 euros per liter.

Accordingly, yogurt, three packages of 200 grams, which costs 3.65 euros, with a permanent reduction of 6%, will be sold at 3.43 euros and with 7% at 3.39 euros.

PDO slice, 400 gram package, whose price in supermarket refrigerators is 6.75 euros, with a 6% reduction will drop to 6.35 and with 7% to 6.28 euros.

Companies that produce standardized foods, such as rice and flour, have made similar moves.

For example, farin flour from a well-known industry (500 grams) from 1.25 euros is sold at 1.15 euros (-8%).

Cleaners and species personal hygiene

The cleaners, detergents and personal hygiene industries are also in the game of permanent reductions, despite the fact that they have already dropped prices since March, after the “cutter” by 30% in promotions with a corresponding drop in the price on the shelf.

For example, a floor cleaner of a large multinational, from the original price of 3.04 euros, is now sold at 2.78 euros, i.e. 8.6% cheaper.

However, the fact that many detergent and cleaning companies have reduced prices does not mean that they will stop their offers, which often reach up to 40%.
