The United States (US) has given Israel one month to improve access and ensure that international humanitarian assistance to Gaza is not obstructed. However, the threat to Israel is considered futile because US President Joe Biden has become a lame duck.

However, the move to threaten to withdraw weapons support to Israel is considered just a political maneuver by the Joe Biden administration.

“This is just Biden’s tactic regarding the electoral contest in the US on November 5. In the latest poll, the electability of Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris, who is supported by Biden, has decreased recently,” said Middle East expert Smith Alhadar when contacted, Thursday (17/10).

“One of the reasons is the disappointment of Palestinian sympathizers over the genocide in Gaza which Biden supports. Harris also did not promise that there would be a change in US policy towards Israel if elected,” he added.

According to Alhadar, the US threat to impose sanctions if Israel does not improve the humanitarian situation of Palestinians in Gaza within a month is only a strategy to win over voters who are concerned about the genocide committed by Israel.

“For more than 10 days the Palestinian people in northern Gaza have been starving while the deadline given to Israel is one month,” said Alhadar.

“This means that the deadline falls after the US election so Biden has already become lame duck aka lame duck. “Moreover, by the one month deadline, it is possible that all the residents of northern Gaza will have died (from starvation),” he said. (Dhk/P-3)
