Israel stop immediately –

The European Council expresses «grave concern at the attacks by the Israeli Defense Forces against the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), which resulted in the wounding of numerous peacekeepers». This is what we read in the latest draft of the conclusions of the EU leaders, which is dated yesterday. For the leaders, «these attacks by Israel constitute a serious violation of international law and are totally unacceptable. They must stop immediately.” The European Council «recalls that all actors have the obligation to adopt the necessary measures to guarantee the safety of United Nations personnel and property and to respect at all times the inviolability of the premises of the United Nations».

The European Council «supports UNIFIL’s fundamental stabilization role in Southern Lebanon and calls on all parties to protect and support UNIFIL’s important mission». Finally, the European Council urges «all parties to fully respect their obligations to guarantee the safety and security of Unifil personnel at all times and to allow Unifil to continue to implement its mandate». The tug of war continues after what happened in recent days in the Middle East, with the attack on the bases of the UN contingent.
