On Monday, she will participate in the opening of the new Šešupė care home unit of Marijampole special social care home.
According to the minister, Marijampole municipality shows a breakthrough in this area and is an example for other municipalities in the country.
“We can be happy that the availability of specialized nursing and social care services has been increased in southwestern Lithuania, and a new infrastructure adapted to the provision of such services has been created, which will create opportunities and conditions for people with severe mental or intellectual disabilities to receive the highest quality services that meet individual needs and the necessary assistance.” , – says M. Navickienė.
As announced by the Ministry of Social Security and Labor (SADM), the development of sheltered housing for people who need minimal assistance from specialists in the field of social work is being actively implemented in Marijampole.
A children’s day center recently opened its doors in Marijampolė, where children with autism spectrum disorders receive individual professional help. People with more severe disabilities can receive assisted living services in group living homes, the number of which is increasing.
According to the minister, the opening of new special nursing and social care homes in Marijampole fills the need for complex services for people with extremely severe disabilities.
Marijampolė’s special social care home will provide social care for the elderly and adults with disabilities that prevent them from living independently and require constant specialist care.
In order to implement the goals of the institutional transformation, it is planned that persons of working age with severe disabilities, who are already provided with social care in social care institutions, will be accommodated in the Šešupė care home unit with the right of priority.
It is planned that residents from Didvyžiai, Kalvarija and Suvalkija social care homes will move to the specialized nursing and social care unit in October. People waiting to enter these institutions will also move in. In total, up to 40 persons will receive services at the Šešupė care home unit at the same time.
The unit of the Šešupė care home was built with the funds of the state budget and European Union (EU) funds. The value of the project is 2.3 million. EUR, of which 2.1 million euros – state budget, almost 661 thousand. EUR – EU funds.
