They strengthen capacity for control at entry points to the country

Asunción, IP Agency.- The technical team of the Directorate of Border Surveillance and Control of the Ministry of Public Health intensified its work in strengthening capacities at various entry points in the country, such as the Silvio Pettirossi International Airport, the San Roque González de Encarnación Bridge and the pass September 29 of Saltos del Guairá.

Airport personnel, border crossings, epidemiologists and representatives of the health regions, in the last two months participated in a training workshop to comply with the International Health Regulations and improve the capacity to respond to health emergencies of international importance, in order to protect the population from potential health risks.

The purpose of these trainings is to ensure compliance with the standards of the International Health Regulations (IHR) and improve the response capacity to Public Health Emergencies of International Concern (PHEIC) at points of entry to the country.

In this period, several training workshops were held aimed at key institutions, both at airports and at land border crossings, involving personnel from various entities such as Migration, Customs, Navy, National Directorate of Civil Aeronautics (DINAC), National Service of Quality and Animal Health (SENACSA).; in addition to representatives of the Health Regions and epidemiologists.

The training was focused on topics related to the International Health Regulations; The most recent amendments were reviewed, with special emphasis on basic capabilities and procedures for entry points.

Likewise, the MERCOSUR Syndromic Guide, which addressed the management of syndromes and contacts, strengthening the capacity to detect and respond to health threats at points of entry, following the recommendations of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO).

On the other hand, in the city of Encarnación, work was carried out on the development and implementation of procedures for the management of health emergencies, focused on monitoring food safety and the correct disposal of solid and liquid waste at entry points.

These joint efforts, led by Dr. Francisco López, director of Border Surveillance and Control, seek to guarantee a coordinated and effective response to emergency situations, while reinforcing inter-institutional cooperation between entities involved in border surveillance.

The activities carried out seek to ensure that the country’s borders have the necessary resources and training to face potential public health risks, thus protecting both the national population and international travelers, says the Ministry of Health.
