Three people were killed and eight others were injured in a shooting in central Mississippi today. It happened after a football game between student teams. At least 2 men opened fire on a group of between 200 and 300 people who were celebrating their team’s victory. The shots were preceded by a fight between some men, but the officers have not yet understood what triggered the altercation.

“It was chaos, to be honest,” Holmes County Sheriff Willie March said, “the shooting started and people started running.” The episode, which occurred about 3 kilometers from Lexington, occurred after a football game that had taken place a few hours earlier at the Homecoming celebration of the Holmes County Consolidated School. Two of the dead were 19 years old, while the third victim was 25. The injured were airlifted to local hospitals.
