The leader of Pakistan People’s Party Khurshid Shah has told on Friday that the special committee of the Parliament 26th Constitutional Amendment The draft has been approved unanimously.

Speaking to the media after the meeting, Khurshid Shah said regarding the draft of the constitutional amendments that ‘the special committee has approved the draft.’

At the same time, he said that ‘the constitutional draft will be approved by the cabinet.’

He further said that the proposal of Overseas Pakistanis has been proposed to be presented in the cabinet tomorrow that they should be given the right to contest the elections and when they are successful, they should give up their second citizenship. .’

Apart from the government and its allied parties, representatives of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s party, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam, also participated in the special committee of parliament formed to review the proposed constitutional amendments.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Barrister Gohar Khan told the media after the meeting that the fourth draft of the constitutional amendments was shared with him by the government, which was discussed in the special committee.

According to Barrister Gauhar Khan: ‘The first draft was leaked on September 16, the second draft was received on October 12, the third draft was given to us on the 17th and today we received the fourth draft. “We are still in discussions and we will reach a conclusion,” he added. Whatever our vote and agreement is, we will meet Imran Khan and forward it according to his instructions.

According to Barrister Gohar Khan: ‘I have not been allowed to meet Khan Sahib for two weeks, I have not been allowed to meet the doctors either. The government has got them examined by their doctors. Today we will apply, try to meet him tomorrow and as per his instructions we will give our final version, but from the meeting and discussion with Maulana Sahib, we have almost reached an agreement on this.’

Former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s party, PTI, has so far openly opposed the proposed constitutional amendment, but despite this, it has been attending the special committee meeting of the Parliament.

The government has been trying to get the proposed constitutional amendments approved by the parliament for the last one month but the process was delayed due to lack of required majority and opposition from PTI and Maulana Fazlur Rahman.

Later, after the consensus on the draft proposed by Maulana Fazlur Rehman, the way was paved for approval of the 26th constitutional amendment by the Parliament.

But the government still faces several challenges in the process, including opposition from lawyers’ organizations to the proposed constitutional amendments, which they say are intended to give the executive more powers to make judicial appointments.

The proposed amendments envisage the establishment of a federal constitutional court, an increase in the retirement age of senior judges by three years and a change in the process of appointment of the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Pakistan.

People’s Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on October 13 asked the people for their opinion on the government’s proposal to establish constitutional courts at the federal and provincial levels in the country.
