Awareness – Health – Sexuality (SSS) specializes in the promotion of sexual reproductive health rights among young people and vulnerable women, to avoid pregnancies and early sexual relations, sexual abuse and the promotion of menstrual insecurity. It presents itself more and more as a lifeline, particularly for young people and adolescents in Port-gentil and Ogooué-Maritime, looking for an attentive ear when faced with various health concerns. and sexuality. Located within the grounds of the Municipal Fair, in the heart of the economic capital of the country, the NGO and its center have recently been operating with greater enthusiasm and motivation, thanks to its strategic partnership with Maurel&Prom Gabon, operating company oil company operating in the Canton Lacs du Sud region, near Lambaréné (center).
“The added value of Maurel&Prom Gabon consists of the fact that it now fully covers the costs relating to the psychological and medical-health care of the young people we receive and consult in this center. It was the missing link and the Achilles heel for children and families often in financial difficulty.”rejoiced Zita Kongoué, program manager at the NGO Sensitization-Santé-Sexualité (SSS).
Maurel&Prom Gabon therefore comes as a strategic partner for its numerous interventions, within the framework of its CSR policy (social and environmental responsibility), which also extend to the acquisition of sanitary materials and medical-technical equipment for the operation of SSS, for the benefit of young people and adolescents from Port-gentil.
The center of the Sensibilisation-Santé-Sexualité NGO in Port-gentil is operational every working day from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. for free HIV and pregnancy tests, as well as psychological interviews and midwife consultations.
“Our target audience is young people and adolescents aged 14 and over. But since the rise in sexual abuse among children, our awareness-raising now begins in CE1 and CE2 classes in primary school. We are here to tell them that sexuality can be considered as a war and to go to war, we believe that you must have all the basics, you must go through military service to face the war. Without judgment, we are here to support these children, showing them the risks behind sexuality”warned Zita Kongoué, in charge of SSS programs.
SSS has a mobile clinic, a donation from the representation of the European Union in Gabon for awareness campaigns and periodic care for young people, in the neighborhoods of Port-gentil and possibly in deep Ogooué-Maritime. The NGO operates with the support of six (6) social workers, including 1 midwife, 1 laboratory specialist and 1 reception agent.
