At the same time, the government’s finance staff is looking for an extra €140m to pay a Christmas check to around 930,000 low-income pensioners on an income of up to €700.
Accuracy check: Beneficiaries and criteria
The five categories of beneficiaries who will receive the aid shortly before Christmas are as follows:
- The 700,000 pensioners with a personal difference will receive an extraordinary financial aid of 100 – 200 euros as follows:
- For those who receive a sum of main pensions up to 700 euros, an aid of 200 euros will be given.
- For those receiving the sum of main pensions from 700.1 to 1,100 euros, an aid of 150 euros will be given.
The total budget for the 2024 precision check amounts to approximately €243 million. This measure shows the government’s commitment to use the revenue from extraordinary taxation to support vulnerable social groups.
For those who receive a sum of main pensions from 1,100.1 to 1,600 euros, an aid of 100 euros will be given.
- The 767,000 beneficiaries of OPECA’s child benefit will receive an additional installment of child benefit.
- The 220,000 beneficiaries of the OPECA disability allowance and the beneficiaries of the non-institutional allowance and other disability allowances of the e-EFKA will receive an aid of 200 euros.
- The 35,000 uninsured elderly beneficiaries of the corresponding OPECA allowance will receive a 200 euro subsidy.
- The 205,000 beneficiaries of the minimum guaranteed income will receive an additional 50% of the monthly allowance during the month of December.
