Organization of Special Olympics stands out and sights are already set on the 2025 Pan American Games

Asunción, IP Agency.- The holding of the IV Latin American Special Olympics Games was highlighted by Special Olympics Global and the delegations present. It was a “test event” for the Paraguayan organization, which is now looking to the 2025 Junior Pan American Games.

The general manager of the Paraguayan Olympic Committee (COP), Larissa Schaerer, pointed out that the experience of organizing the Odesur Games in 2022 marked a before and after for Paraguayan sport and allowed it to continue moving forward.

In addition to the advances in infrastructure, ASU2022 allowed us to experience the warmth and support of the public in the competitions, something that was experienced again in ASU2024. “More than 20,000 people were in the stadium for the inauguration and the most exciting moment was when the Paraguayan delegation came out,” he said in an interview with La Mañana Nacional.

Coordinated work

The organization of the Special Olympics Games also left a coordinated management between Government institutions and Special Olympics Paraguay (OEP), through an agreement with the Sports Secretariat.

It was also coordinated with the governorates through the first ladies of each governorate, plus the constant support of the presidential first lady, Leticia Ocampos, Schaerer said.

Other important support came from the binationals, such as the case of Itaipu, which implemented the “Fans in the Stands” program that allowed 3,000 children to attend the COP and the SND for sports competitions, a program that will be implemented next year.

Five days after the Junior Pan American Games it will be the first date of the World Rally Championship in Paraguay (WRC), and our country also aspires to host the Youth Olympic Games in 2030.
