Madrid, Oct 18 (EFE).- The Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) confirmed this Friday that the Super Cup will be played at the King Abdullah stadium in Jeddah (Saudi Arabia), with the first Real Madrid-Mallorca semi-final on January 8, the second the following day Athletic Club-Barcelona and the final on Sunday the 12th.

After three consecutive years with Riyadh as the venue, the competition will be held this season in the aforementioned Jeddah stadium, with capacity for more than 60,000 spectators, which already hosted the tournament in the 2020 edition, the first to be held in Arabia. Saudi, with final victory for Atlético de Madrid in the penalty shootout over Real Madrid.

The white team, current champions of the Super Cup and LaLiga, will begin to defend the title on Wednesday, January 8 against Mallorca, who debuts in the tournament as runners-up in the Copa del Rey (10:00 p.m. local time, 8:00 p.m. in Spain) .

The next day, at the same time, Athletic, who were proclaimed Cup champions, and Barcelona, ​​who finished second in LaLiga, will face each other for the other place in the final on the 12th.

The first edition of the Super Cup that was played outside of Spain, still a single match, was the one corresponding to the 2019-2020 season in Tangier and from the following campaign the format was modified, to be played as a final four, with Saudi Arabia as a scenario, after the agreement between the RFEF and this country, initially for three years and then extended until 2029.
