“Ecoservice” in the Riga court demands “Compensos” to pay more than 7.4 million. euros | Business

Ecoservice announced that it has submitted 7.4 million EUR claim to the Riga City Court. It states that the Latvian branch of Compensos is unreasonably delaying the decision regarding the insurance payment.

The head of Ecoservice, Jurgita Nacevičienė, says that the company cannot restore its previous capacity due to unpaid funds from Compensa.

“The fire happened more than a year ago, but Compensa has not yet formulated and has not even provided us with conclusions as to whether this incident, according to the insurers, is an insured event. This is surprising, because after the fire, the Departments of Environmental Protection and Fire Protection and Rescue conducted investigations and determined the essential circumstances, so there is not much room for interpretations,” she said in the report.

A pre-trial investigation into the fire is currently underway in Lithuania. According to Ecoservice, the end date of the investigation is not clear, and its findings could prompt Compensa to start paying damages.

“The company is also finishing calculating the losses incurred when it had to partially stop operations after the fire. When this amount becomes clear, the claim will be supplemented. It is estimated that, with the help of the court, the aim will be to claim 10 million from Compensa. a payment exceeding EUR 100,000”, says Ecoservice.

According to J. Nacevičienė, there was close cooperation with the insurer from the first days of the fire, and all information was promptly provided. However, so far Compensa has only submitted comments related to the fire regarding the legality of the tarpaulin shed in the yard of the sorting center, even though it itself insured this shed and received the insurance premium for it.

Ecoservice emphasizes that the authorities indicated during both fire and environmental inspections that no violations were found.

“Ecoservice” filed a claim with the Riga City Court, as this procedure for resolving disputes is provided for in the insurance contract.

During the fire that broke out on August 5, 2023, the company’s building, waste sorting equipment and part of the stock were destroyed. Ecoservice estimates that 18 million will be needed to rebuild the sorting center. euros.
