Renault puts the “jeans model of the 21st century” on four wheels

Especially when it comes to electric cars, it is in vogue to be based on historic cult vehicles: Stellantis subsidiary Opel is already thinking about an electric Manta, and Ford showed the electric Capri at the Paris Motor Show.

The French car manufacturer Renault has also been surfing the retro wave for some time: the Gauls have achieved a masterpiece with the fully electric R5 (you can find a driving report in the OÖN next Saturday). Now the French are upping the ante with the R4 E-Tech Electric.

“}”> Renault provides that

The cockpit of the R4 E-Tech Electric is strongly reminiscent of that of the Renault 5.

However, you have to correct the nomenclature right from the start: based on the sequence of numbers, you would think that the R4 ranks below the R5. But that’s not the case, the Renault 4 E-Tech Electric sits between the R5 and Megane E-Tech Electric. With an external length of 4.14 meters, the “four” is a real compact car.

The R4 shares the platform with the R5, but is larger in all respects. The loading volume of the Renault 4 is 420 liters, which is higher than that of the VW ID.3. Thanks to a wheelbase of 2.62 meters, up to five passengers can feel comfortable in the R4. The backrests of the rear seat bench can be folded down in a 60:40 ratio. In addition, the passenger seat backrest can be folded flat, allowing long items to be transported.
