The former One Direction star previously told Sky News: “In some cases I’m lucky enough to still be here.”
He said it was hard to talk because “I still haven’t come to terms with it.”
“There are times when at this level of loneliness and the people who come in every day… every once in a while you say when is this going to end?
“That almost killed me a few times.”
According to what has been revealed so far, Liam Payne was behaving erratically and had to be escorted back to his hotel room before he plunged to his death – with hotel workers frantically calling the police.
The former One Direction star, 31, fell from the third floor of the Casa Sur Palmero hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina yesterday.
Police in Buenos Aires contacted a hotel worker who reported “an aggressive man who may have been under the influence of drugs and alcohol.”
Shortly afterwards, workers heard a loud noise in the hotel courtyard before the One Direction star’s body was discovered just after 5pm.
According to local media, Liam was “behaving erratically in the hotel lobby and broke his laptop” before he “had to be taken back to his room”.
Emergency medical services director Alberto Crescenti said Liam suffered “very serious injuries after falling from the third floor into an internal courtyard”.
“We verified his identity using the passport he had,” he said.
Mr Crescenti told Argentinian newspaper Clarin that “the team saw that he apparently had a fracture at the base of the skull”.
His body was taken to a local mortuary where an autopsy will be performed.
