CHAIRMAN of the Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI) M Fadil Imran said that the Suhandinata Cup team world championship title won by the junior badminton team was a good start for the achievements of young Indonesian players in the future.

“Mr M Fadil Imran congratulated and thanked the WJC team for their success in winning the 2024 Suhandinata Cup. He feels very proud of this success,” said PP PBSI Daily Chair Alex Tirta.

“This success is a very good start for junior players to look to the future so that Indonesia’s badminton achievements remain successful and will be able to maintain supremacy on the world stage,” he added.

According to Alex, the achievement of the Indonesian junior team in winning the 2024 Suhandinata Cup after beating China in the final at home was an extraordinary achievement.

“If Mr. Suharso Suhandinata, whose name is immortalized as the name of the trophy being contested, was still alive, he would certainly be very proud of this success,” said Alex.

“This success shows that Indonesian junior players not only have good technical and physical qualities, but also proves that Indonesian junior players have unity and a very tough mentality,” he added.

In the championship which took place at the Nanchang International Sports Center Gymnasium, Nanchang, China, 30 September-5 October, the junior badminton team successfully sang the song “Indonesia Raya” after being the best in the mixed team event.

In the final, Indonesia beat hosts China with a score of 110-103.

Due to this success, the Garuda Muda team has the right to win the Suhandinata Cup, the symbol of highest supremacy in the junior mixed team badminton world championship.

Since the trophy was first contested in 2009 in Alor Setar, Malaysia, Indonesia has only won the trophy twice which is named in honor of the dedication of the Indonesian badminton figure.

The Garuda Muda team last won in 2019 when the event took place in Kazan, Russia.

Apart from winning the Suhandinata Cup, the Red-White squad also added two bronze medals in individual events.

The bronze medal was presented by men’s singles player Moh Zaki Ubaidillah, who in the semifinal match was stopped by host representative Wang Zi Jun 19-21, 20-22.

Another bronze medal was won by women’s doubles Isyana Syahira Meida/Rinjani Kwinara Nastine. In the semifinals, Isyana/Rinjani were defeated by Japanese pair Ririna Hiramoto/Aya Tamaki with a tight score of 21-23, 19-21. (Z-6)
