AI robotic surgery took the world by surprise, the video also went viral

A dental hospital in Boston has successfully tested robotic dental surgery using AI technology, a video of which has gone viral on social media.

An important historic medical breakthrough created by artificial intelligence for dental treatment has come out, the video of the world’s first robotic dental surgery, a two-hour operation can now be completed in just 15 minutes.

According to the report of the foreign news agency, an autonomous robot controlled by artificial intelligence, developed by the Boston startup company Perceptive, has performed a complete robotic dental surgery on a patient for the first time. This robot can perform surgery eight times faster than a human dentist.

The system, created by the Boston company Perceptive, uses a hand-held 3D scanner that creates a detailed 3D model of the mouth.

This model also contains the teeth, gums and nerves beneath the surface of the tooth, using optical tomography or ‘OCT’, this surgery eliminates the use of harmful X-rays.

‘OCT’ uses nothing but light rays to construct its volumetric models. Cavities are detected with this system with an accuracy rate of about 90%.

At this point, the human dentist and the patient can discuss what to do. But once these decisions are made, robotic dental surgeons take over. He plans the operation then goes ahead and performs the surgery.

Surgery completed in 15 minutes

The first specialty of the robotic surgery machine involves tooth preparation. Perceptive claims that the procedure, which normally takes two hours and is usually performed in two parts by dentists, can be completed by a robotic dentist in about 15 minutes.

Interestingly, the company claims that the machine can operate safely even in highly mobile conditions, with experimental tests on humans being successful. Before humans, tests have also been done on animals in the laboratory.

A dental robot developed by Boston company Perceptive has been approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), although Perceptive has not yet set a timeline for when the system will be marketed to the public. It can take years to get access to this type of treatment.
