The Supreme Court (MA) was asked to become a bulwark against the power of the legal mafia, not instead become a place for lobbying cases. In particular, regarding the handling of the review (PK) of mining business permit (IUP) corruption convict Mardani H Maming, which continues to be in the public spotlight.

This was conveyed by Gerindra Party politician Immanuel Ebenezer (Noel) responding to the election of Supreme Court Justice Sunarto as Chief Justice of the Supreme Court (MA). Supreme Court Justice Sunarto is one of the judges from PK Mardani Maming.

“It must (the Supreme Court must be in line with President-elect Prabowo’s commitment to eradicate corruption). “My definite hope is that the Supreme Court can really become a fortress or strength in fighting the legal mafia, not a political institution that has to negotiate or lobby like that (regarding PK Mardani H Maming),” stressed Noel, in his statement, Wednesday (16/10).

Noel emphasized the importance of the Supreme Court trying PK Mardani Maming in accordance with existing law enforcement. The Supreme Court must remind that from the first court level decision, appeal and cassation, corruption convict Mardani H Maming has been proven guilty.

“You have to continue to show law enforcement (PK Mardani H Maming) because this institution is not a political institution,” explained Noel.

Noel also advised the Supreme Court (MA) under the leadership of Sunarto to carry out an internal clean-up. The Supreme Court must be free from legal mafia inside and outside.

“Also (cleaning up) the mafias within the Supreme Court itself,” he said.

A similar thing was conveyed by Professor of Criminal Law at Pancasila University, Agus Surono. He hopes that Sunarto can show his integrity in prosecuting PK Mardani Maming.

“I hope Mr Sunarto is independent and objective. “I hope he maintains his integrity, including in deciding on the PK application from the convict Mardani H Maming,” said Agus.

Agus asked the Supreme Court to be the last bastion in enforcing corruption by rejecting PK Mardani Maming. “I hope that the Supreme Court will become a strong institution and become the last bastion in enforcing the eradication of criminal acts of corruption,” said Agus.

According to him, the Supreme Court must support President-elect Prabowo Subianto’s commitment to eradicating corruption. Especially in the natural resources sector, so that society is more prosperous. (Medcom.id/Nov)
