THE struggle for Indonesian representatives in the 2024 Denmark Open tournament continues. Putri badminton player Kusuma Wardani advanced to the quarter-finals.

Putri KW, as she is nicknamed, successfully defeated Taiwan’s representative, Sung Shuo Yun with a score of 21-11, 21-15 at Jyske Bank Arena, Odense, Thursday (17/10/2024).

“I thank God that I didn’t suffer any injuries or anything, and am grateful that today I was able to play more freely and enjoy the game more,” said Putri in her statement, Thursday (17/10).

Putri KW had previously met the Taiwanese representative. At that time there were wind and other factors which according to him influenced the outcome of the match.

In facing the quarter-finals, he will recover his physical condition.

“And keep my mind focused on the goal, so after today’s match, I have to calm my mind, enjoy playing the match, and later when I have calmed down, I will look at my opponent’s game tomorrow and prepare a strategy,” he said.

Meanwhile, a different fate was experienced by Indonesian men’s singles, Jonatan Christie, who had to lose to Lu Guang Zu (China). Jonathan lost after playing three games with a score of 19-21, 21-8 and 18-21.

“Today’s results were not as expected, at the final points of today’s match, I was a little less calm and less brave to use my strategy, several times I was carried away by the opponent’s playing pattern,” said Jonatan in his statement, Thursday (17/ 10).

Jojo admitted that his performance during this European tour was quite satisfactory. It cannot be denied that he will also continue to evaluate and improve his game.

“After this I will rest for a while, because yesterday after the final at the 2024 Arctic Open, I experienced a little bruising or swelling on my leg,” he said.

“However, that is not an excuse for my defeat today, because I should have been able to overcome it, so after this I also have to recover first, restore the condition of my legs, so that I am ready to face the next tournament,” he added.

The pair Leo Rolly Carnando/Bagas Maulana also had to accept defeat with a score of 17-21 and 18-21 to the Chinese representatives, Liang Wei Keng/Wang Chang. (Ndf/P-3)
