CHAIRMAN of the Judicial Commission (KY) Amzulian hopes that Chief Justice of the Supreme Court (MA) Sunarto will be able to restore public confidence in the judiciary in Indonesia to become a great judicial body.

“I congratulate and am proud of the election of His Excellency Prof. Sunarto as Chair of the MA for the 2024-2029 period replacing Prof. M. Syarifuddin. I congratulate you on your work for the progress of the MA institution,” said Amzulian, in his statement, Wednesday (16/10).

Amzulian hopes that under the leadership of Supreme Court Justice Sunarto, KY and the Supreme Court will increase synergy and collaboration to be able to provide hope for justice seekers, as well as realizing the Supreme Court’s vision of becoming a great judicial body.

Likewise, KY Member and KY Spokesperson Mukti Fajar Nur Dewata expressed his hope to the elected Chief Justice of the Supreme Court so that he can carry out his mandate well.

“As the main partner of the Supreme Court, KY hopes that His Excellency Prof. Sunarto can carry out his mandate well, and increase synergy with KY in realizing a judiciary that is clean, credible and has public trust,” hoped Mukti Fajar.

It is known that Sunarto was appointed as Chief Justice of the Supreme Court for the 2024-2029 period based on the Special Plenary Session for the Election of the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court on Wednesday (16/10). At the trial which was attended by 45 of the 46 Supreme Court justices, Sunarto won by a landslide with 30 votes. He outperformed three other Supreme Court judges, namely Supreme Judge of the Civil Chamber, Haswandi, Supreme Judge of the Criminal Chamber, Soesilo, and Chairman of the State Administrative Chamber, Yulius. The total number of votes cast was 44 votes, consisting of 42 valid votes and two invalid votes, while one other vote was abstained. (D-3)
