Vaccination campaign against the rabies virus in Medellín

The Mayor’s Office of Medellín launched a vaccination campaign against the rabies virus for dogs and cats, with the goal of administering 120,000 doses throughout the year.

The strategy includes the application of 105,000 vaccines in urban areas and 15,000 in rural areas, thus seeking to protect pets and the community from the potentially deadly rabies virus.

The vaccination days will be carried out at no cost, from Monday to Saturday, between 9:00 am and 2:00 pm, by trained and duly identified personnel.

The Undersecretary of Public Health, Allen Guillermo Londoño Parra, emphasized the importance of periodically vaccinating animals, starting at three months of age and repeating the vaccination annually.

Those interested can also go to a fixed vaccination point located at the Faculty of Agrarian Sciences of the University of Antioquia, where the service will be available from Tuesday to Saturday from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm. For more information, you can contact number 310 415 4501.

Rabies is a disease that affects the central nervous system and is transmitted through bites or scratches from infected animals.

Citizens are recommended that, in the event of a bite, wash the wound with plenty of soap and water and go to a health center to receive care.
