Tuchel Poaches Chelsea Coaches for England!

Well, well, well! Thomas Tuchel, the man who’s spent more time at Chelsea than most of the club chairs, is stirring the pot once again—this time, it’s the coaching staff stew! The newly appointed England manager (yes, you heard that right) is on a mission to pilfer some of his old pals from Stamford Bridge. Honestly, if he keeps this up, the FA should just open a recruiting agency!

Tuchel was officially recognized as Gareth Southgate’s permanent successor after receiving an 18-month contract to lead the Three Lions until the end of the 2026 World Cup—because, you know, we all need a little consistency in our lives. Ironically, the only thing more predictable seems to be Tuchel’s taste in assistants!

The New Dream Team

Joining Tuchel as England’s No. 2 is Anthony Barry, the 38-year-old coaching whizz who’s gone from being Frank Lampard’s sidekick to the man who’s literally, and I mean literally, one step away from the boss himself. If his career trajectory keeps skyrocketing like this, he’ll be managing the England team from a rocket ship in no time!

Mail Sport has reported that Tuchel isn’t just stopping with Barry; oh no, he’s got his eye on a few more familiar faces from Chelsea. Rumor has it that goalkeeping coach Hilario and performance analyst James Melbourne are also expected to don the Three Lions badge. “Hilario,” you might ask, “Is that his real name or did he just show up at Chelsea yelling ‘SING ALONG, I’M HERE FOR THE GOALS!’?”

The Coaching Shuffle

Now, the FA hasn’t officially approached Chelsea yet for Hilario, as it seems they want to play it cool—traditional British politeness, perhaps? But let’s be real, when you’ve got someone like Tuchel on your roster, you might as well throw a recruitment party at Stamford Bridge. Spoiler alert: it’s going to be a smash hit!

Speaking of smashing, Hilario isn’t just an ex-player; the man has got history! He played 39 fantastic games for Chelsea before he turned into the coach-managing machine we see today. And let’s not forget James Melbourne, who’s been lurking around Stamford Bridge since 2005 like a talented ghost—perhaps he might even get some ghostly powers when he switches sides?

FA Executive Insights

At Tuchel’s official presentation, FA chief executive Mark Bullingham revealed they had interviewed around 10 candidates for the role. Now, was this a job interview or a game of ‘Who Wants to Be the England Manager?’? There’s always room for a bit of drama, right? Bullingham mentioned some candidates were “more prepared” than others. Good to know—because imagine rocking up to interview day with nothing but a cheeky smile and a hope for the best!

And what’s this? Bullingham has promised transparency, but only on the condition that you don’t expect too much. “Confidentiality is key,” he said. It’s like being invited to a magician’s show, only to realize the biggest trick is ensuring nobody sees the cards!

Conclusion: The Road Ahead

So here we are, the dawn of a new era for England football! Tuchel is expected to officially begin his duties on January 1 afterward—a symbolic fresh start! With a roster filled with familiar faces and a tactical genius at the helm, will England finally have what it takes to clinch that coveted trophy? Or will they just end up being the team with the best coaching staff on paper?

Whatever happens, one thing’s for sure: it’s going to be an entertaining ride. Bring on the Mistletoe of Nations Matches in November, and prepare for some delightful chaos. I, for one, can’t wait to see what Tuchel has up his sleeve—hopefully not just a stack of old Chelsea training manuals!

Cheers to football—where every decision is a gamble, and every coach is just one amusing press conference away from a viral meme!

Thomas Tuchel intends to poach coaches from his former team Chelsea as he assembles his new coaching staff in England.

The German was recognized on Wednesday as Gareth Southgate’s permanent successor, signing an 18-month contract that will take him until the end of the 2026 World Cup.

Next to him, 38-year-old Anthony Barry, who has enjoyed rapid progress, assisting Frank Lampard and Roberto Martínez, as well as Tuchel, has been confirmed as England’s No. 2.

Mail Sport understands Tuchel will return to Stamford Bridge for a couple more members of his Three Lions squad, with goalkeeping coach Hilario and performance analyst manager James Melbourne also joining.

The FA are yet to make an official approach to Chelsea for Hilario, but the Portuguese is believed to be on Tuchel’s radar.

Thomas Tuchel will begin his duties as England manager on January 1 after agreeing to become the new coach and manager of the Three Lions.

The former stopper played 39 games for the Blues between 2006 and 2014 before returning as a coach in 2016 and working under various coaches at Stamford Bridge.

Meanwhile, Melbourne has been at Chelsea since 2005 and it is not yet known whether he will leave the Blues completely or work with the FA on a part-time basis.

Tuchel worked with the couple during his time at the club, a period in which he led the team to the Mistletoe of Champions in 2021.

The appointment of the 51-year-old manager ended weeks of speculation about the England manager’s position, following the departure of Southgate following the Euro 2024 final.

Lee Carsley filled the role on an interim basis, leading the team in four international matches, and will continue his tenure for the next Mistletoe of Nations matches in November.

At Tuchel’s presentation on Wednesday, FA chief executive Mark Bullingham revealed that around 10 candidates had been interviewed for the role.

‘The entire process was confidential. That may have been frustrating for the audience, but we have to maintain that confidentiality. Not only for us, but above all for the candidates,” he admitted.

‘I’ll say some things and stay like that. So we interviewed about ten people and interviewed some English candidates within them. As for anything else, I wouldn’t expect him to divulge any details.

Asked if any of them had rejected the FA’s advances, Bullingham added: “We made the process really clear. We spoke to about 10 throughout the process.

“Clearly some were more prepared for the role than others. We are absolutely delighted to be finishing with Thomas and believe he gives us the best opportunity to cash in on the World Cup. We believe the best candidate got the job.
