The 31-year-old star fell from the third floor in the courtyard of the Casa Sur hotel in the Argentine capital yesterday afternoon, before doctors confirmed his death.

Alberto Crescenti, head of Buenos Aires’ emergency services, revealed that Payne had a “fractured skull and extremely serious injuries that led to his immediate death.”

He also told TN television that Payne was dead when paramedics arrived at 5pm local time (9pm UK time), adding: “Our role was to get there quickly, give medical aid and We tried to revive him, but his injuries were incompatible with life. .

Payne’s identity was confirmed by emergency services by checking his passport, but police do not yet have conclusive evidence about the circumstances of his fall.

The singer fell from a third-floor suite with a balcony overlooking an indoor pool and the hotel’s Michelin-starred restaurant and landed in the courtyard.

Police thoroughly examined his room and balcony late last night after their colleagues below set up a red tent at the spot where Payne died.

It has not yet been revealed whether his tragic death was an accident or suicide.

The patio where he died is next to the pool and is also the outdoor seating area in the hotel’s Sarco restaurant. There were no restaurants there at the time because Sacro closes after lunch at 4pm. before reopening for dinner at 7:30 p.m.

Payne had arrived in Argentina earlier this month for his ex-partner Niall Horan’s concert with his girlfriend Kate Cassidy. She left two days ago, but he stayed.

Around the same time, his ex-fiancée Maya Henry instructed lawyers to issue a cease and desist letter to Payne after she accused him of repeatedly contacting her.

Payne shot to stardom aged 16 after forming boy band One Direction on The X Factor in 2010 alongside Zayn Malik, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan and Harry Styles.

A hotel reception worker earlier called 999 for “urgent” help after Payne was acting erratically and was escorted back to his hotel room.

The hotel clerk made two phone calls, saying in the first, “We have a guest who is under the influence of drugs and destroying everything in his room. We need someone to come.’

He then called after the line ended, saying: “I don’t know if the guest’s life is in danger. The room has a balcony and we are afraid that he might do something.’

Payne was said to be “acting erratically in the hotel lobby and broke his laptop” before he was “forced to be taken back to his room”, according to local media.

Seconds later the employee, who identified himself as Esteban, added: “Just send an ambulance, just an ambulance.” Workers had heard a loud noise in the yard before the singer’s body was discovered just after 5pm local time (9pm UK time).

A recording of the second call, which lasted around two minutes and was leaked to local media overnight, began with the 999 operator saying: “Hey, where’s the emergency?”

Liam Payne fans feared for the singer’s health in the years leading up to his death after a series of worrying signs that his life had spiraled out of control.

The singer, who died aged 31, was reported to have been acting “unruly” in the hours before his death and recently the star’s inner circle were said to fear for his welfare.

The star’s loyal fans have also voiced their concerns for the troubled star, following a string of worrying appearances including a shaky red carpet appearance, hospitalisation, canceled concerts and strange videos.


Fans of the One Direction star had noticed Liam’s strange behavior during recent appearances, including at his former bandmate’s concert in Argentina a few days ago, where he was asked to stop dancing by a security guard.

Another disturbing video shows Liam looking tired as he greets fans, signs autographs and sings his song Familiar, with critics commenting on the clip that he looked ‘out of place’.
