Welcome back Lonzo! After three years, Ball returns to the court – NBARELIGION.COM

Lonzo Ball‘s Comeback: Knee Surgeries, Standing Ovations, and His Return to the Bulls

Well folks, grab your popcorn and dust off your sports jerseys because Lonzo Ball has emerged from his lengthy hibernation—akin to a grizzly bear that just couldn’t find the right surgery option on Yelp. After over 1,000 days of absence and not just one, not two, but three knee surgeries, the man has returned to the court sporting the Chicago Bulls jersey once again.

Lonzo last graced us with his presence on January 14, 2022. The hope was that after a bit of minor surgery on his left knee, he’d be strutting his stuff for the Playoffs. Spoiler alert: that didn’t happen. His knee decided to keep him in timeout, leading to another operation. But apparently, when the doctors said, “We’ll fix you up”, what they really meant was, “We’ll keep you guessing!” It resulted in the unique addition of cartilage grown outside his body. This isn’t just missing a game; it’s like the world’s most bizarre science fair project gone wrong!

And here it comes, folks: on Wednesday night, Lonzo made his glorious return and was heralded with a standing ovation that could rival any Oscar-winning moment! Spoiler alert number two: not only did he step onto the court, he managed to score 10 points in just 15 minutes. That’s right! 10 points—breaking into the scoreboard like he was some sort of basketball superhero! And can we take a minute to appreciate the fact that he actually said, “I didn’t feel it at all”? You know, that’s the true comeback. Not just the points scored, but the sheer audacity of that knee to shut up for once!

“I didn’t feel it at all. I felt like I was moving well. Now it’s just a matter of building. Continue to do it day after day.”

So there you have it: Lonzo is back in the lineup with cautious excitement. He’s set to play in the final preseason game as well, which means it’s not just a flicker of hope—it’s a full-blown disco ball of optimism! Perhaps his next challenge will be to teach his knee the importance of staying in the game. After all, this saga of surgeries has certainly added a dramatic flair to the season—who knew we’d be tuning in for some riveting knee drama?

In conclusion, welcome back, Lonzo! May your knees play nice, your shots stay true, and remember: when life gives you cartilage, make sure you bring it to the court!

And while we’re at it, let’s spare a moment for Jamal Crawford, who’s resurfacing as an analyst for the Knicks. Maybe he can drop some of his wisdom on how to avoid knee invasions. Not that any team ever planned for a “cartilage grow-op” in their training regimen!

And for the rest of the league? Get ready! We’re in for a wild ride this season!

After over 1,000 days of absence and three knee surgeries, Lonzo Ball he returned to the field for the Chicago Bulls in a preseason game Wednesday night, greeted by a standing ovation.

Ball last played a game on Jan. 14, 2022. He then was forced to undergo arthroscopic surgery on his left knee, expecting to return for the Playoffs in the spring. It wasn’t like that. The knee continued to hurt. In the end he had to undergo another operation to try to solve the problem, but he still didn’t succeed. In March 2023, Ball underwent cartilage replacement surgery. Simply put, cartilage was grown on the outside of the body, then inserted. An operation from which no player ever returned to play in the NBA.

At least until Wednesday. Ball not only entered the field, but he also convinced concluding the evening with 10 points. But, even better news, he commented on the performance by saying that the knee did not cause any kind of problem.

“I didn’t feel it at all. I felt like I was moving well. Now it’s just a matter of building. Continue to do it day after day.”

Ball then already anticipated that he plans to play the final preseason game as well of Chicago on Friday. In short, a return – cautious and progressive – to the rotation is expected. One of the best stories of the recent NBA.
