Homicide is in the “genes” of migrants, says Donald Trump

NEW YORK (AP).— The Republican candidate for the presidency of the United States, Donald Trump, suggested yesterday that migrants who are in the United States and have committed murders did so because “it is in their genes.”

There are “a lot of bad genes in our country right now,” he added.

This is the latest case of Trump alleging that migrants are changing the genetic makeup of the United States.

Last year, he evoked words once used by Adolf Hitler to argue that migrants entering the United States illegally are “poisoning the blood of our country.”

Trump made his comments yesterday in a radio interview with conservative host Hugh Hewitt.

He was criticizing his Democratic opponent, Vice President Kamala Harris, when he addressed the issue of immigration, citing statistics that the Department of Homeland Security says include cases from the Trump administration.

“What about allowing people to come in across an open border, 13,000 of whom were murderers? Many of them murdered many more than one person,” Trump said. “And now they live happily in the United States. You know, now a murderer… I believe this: it’s in his genes. And we have a lot of bad genes in our country right now. “So they had 425,000 people who entered our country who should not be here and who are criminals.”

Clarification

Trump’s campaign said his comments about genes were about killers.

“He was clearly referring to murderers, not migrants. “It’s pretty disgusting that the media is always so quick to defend murderers, rapists and illegal criminals if it means writing a bad headline about President Trump,” Karoline Leavitt, national press secretary for the Trump campaign, said in a statement. .

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement last month released data to Republican Rep. Tony Gonzales about people under its supervision, including those not in ICE custody. That included 13,099 people who were convicted of homicide and 425,431 people who are convicted criminals.

But those numbers span decades, including the Trump administration. And those not in ICE custody would be detained by state or local law enforcement agencies, according to the Department of Homeland Security, which oversees ICE.

Kamala’s campaign team declined to comment.

When asked yesterday during her press conference about Trump’s comment about “bad genes,” White House spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre said that “that type of language is hateful, disgusting, inappropriate and has no fit in our country.”

Asylum Restrictions

Joe Biden’s government has tightened asylum restrictions for migrants.

Kamala

For her part, Kamala Harris, trying to confront a vulnerability while campaigning, has worked to project a tougher stance on immigration.

Campaign

The former president and Republican candidate has made illegal immigration a central part of his 2024 campaign, and has promised to carry out the largest deportation operation in US history if elected.

Long history

He has a long history of making comments that defame migrants, such as referring to them as “animals” and “murderers,” and saying that they spread diseases.
