Venezuelan José Santiago Materán made history in the debut game of the Brazilian National Basketball League (NBB), after becoming the top scorer in the history of his club, Pato Basquete, reaching 733 points.

In the clash in which his team fell 67-68 to Pinheiros, the native of Barquisimeto, Venezuela, left behind the mark of 726 points held by Augusto Cabral, to be the leader in baskets in the young history of the Paranaense quintet.

“I feel very satisfied and grateful with the organization,” said the national international who comes from Gladiadores de Anzoátegui, the club with which he obtained his third professional title.

“They opened the doors of the team to me, they believed in me from the beginning and now I give them back some of that with this achievement,” the 28-year-old twilight told the official press of the Amazonian circuit. “Achieving this as a foreigner, in this club that is constantly growing, is very special for me, it makes me very happy.”

In the historic duel, Materán appeared with 17 points and six rebounds.

Pato Basquete achieved its first victory of the campaign, after defeating Corinthians 89-86. Then, the Venezuelan led the victory with 19 points, eight sacks, one assist and one recovered ball.

In the incipient season of the South American giant, Materán is the fifth best scorer (18 points per duel) and leader in triples (53.8%), in this, his third championship with the cast.

In another clash on the Brazilian circuit, also Venezuelan Pedro Chourio stood out with 12 cards, two assists and two steals, in San José’s 81-70 defeat against Botafogo.
