Since yesterday, the leaked expert suggestions for possible (partial) hospital closures in Lower Austria have rightly caused a great deal of excitement. The Styrian SPÖ National Council member Mario Lindner is now warning that a possible implementation of these plans could not only affect Lower Austria: “The proposed clear-cutting of the Lower Austrian LKH landscape would also massively affect the supply situation in Styria. Many people in Upper Styria and especially in the Liezen district are dependent on Lower Austrian hospitals. Our rescue organizations in particular have to routinely go to the hospitals in Waidhofen and Scheibbs in the eastern part of the district to ensure quick care. Closures and partial closures would also mean an enormous risk in Styria,” said Lindner. ****
For Lindner, who himself works as a volunteer paramedic in the Liezen district, this is particularly about the political responsibility of the black-blue state government in the neighboring federal state. It is a remarkable “coincidence” that the Mikl-Leitner/Landbauer coalition only wants to think about the future of the affected hospitals after the Lower Austrian local council elections in January: “As politicians, we have to ensure that everyone gets ready quickly and can rely on care close to home in an emergency. The fact that the ÖVP/FPÖ government in Lower Austria is now thinking about large-scale hospital closures is the opposite of responsible politics and endangers the security of supply for the population – not only in Lower Austria, but also in Styria!” (Conclusion) sp/ls
