– It is a cheap, defamatory and politically disgusting character assassination that comes out right before the presidential election, in an attempt to damage the biggest political movement in our country’s history, writes the Republican presidential candidate on his own social platform Truth Social.
The film “The Apprentice“, directed by Danish-Swedish-Iranian Ali Abbasi, premiered in American cinemas on Friday. The fictional film is based on Trump’s life in New York in the 1970s and 80s, and in one scene in the film Trump rapes his then wife, the now deceased Ivana Trump. It is this scene in particular that the former president reacts to.
– My former wife, Ivana, was a kind and wonderful person with whom I had a great relationship until the day she died. The author of this pile of garbage, talentless scoundrel Gabe Sherman, knew this but chose to ignore it, he writes. Sherman is the film’s screenwriter.
Trump writes at the same time that he hopes the film flops, and questions the rights to use the name “The Apprentice”, which is also the name of the reality series Trump led from 2004 to 2015.
When the film had its world premiere at Cannes in May, Trump grilled his lawyers on Abbasi and the film company. It took a long time to clarify the distribution in the US, where many are afraid of falling out of favor with the Republican presidential candidate.
The film will be released in Norwegian cinemas on 18 October.
