It can seem totally unmanageable.
To stand among hundreds of racks and stands filled with clothes and shoes in different sizes – and toys in bright colors.
But still, there are many families with children who throw themselves into exactly that kind of shopping when the little ones’ wardrobe needs to be updated. Because with small children, it can feel as if they suddenly grow a size overnight.
And that makes good sense, because it spares the wallet and can at the same time give a slightly better conscience in relation to the strain on our planet. Because clothing production in particular accounts for a large part of our total CO2 emissions.
According to the Recycle Index from 2023, nine out of ten parents have bought used within the past year, primarily toys, children’s clothing and furniture.
Melissa Thøgersen – and her husband Kasper Thomsen – have had the Children’s Race in City Syd for five years. And it is almost impossible to imagine how much clothes and toys have passed through the store in that time.
Tina Lenskjold, owner of Hoppeloppen in Aabybro, also has a lot of experience in selling second-hand clothes. First for women, but later she expanded the store to have a dedicated department for children.
Both stores offer customers to rent stands where they can sell their used clothes and equipment on to new families.
