Andrea Sarnari, The new head of the FAA emphasized the need to cancel exports and criticized Milei‘s commitment in this regard: “This is a very difficult time for farming families and the productive outback,” pointed out in La preview Fontevecchia modelgo through internet tv, Introduction to radio (1190 am) amadeus radio (FM 91.1).

Andrea Sarnari is an agricultural producer and the new president of the Federation of Agriculture.

Alejandro Gomel (AG): Much to our surprise, the new President of the Agriculture Federation is a woman. Can you tell us a little bit of your story?

Dictators don’t like this

The practice of professional and critical journalism is a fundamental pillar of democracy. That’s why it bothers those who think they have the truth.

It raises eyebrows because it is new, in the 112-year history of our agricultural federation This is the first time a woman is hosting. Furthermore, because in agricultural societies women have historically not held leadership or visible roles in power structures, although this has changed over time.

In fact, there is a growing active participation within the organization and a growing participation of women in our own agricultural companies. In many cases we have taken the initiativeplacing us not only above the administrative or domestic tasks we have historically done, but also in a transcendent and central role in production. This is reflected in active participation.

Andrea Sarnari, first woman to serve as president of the Argentine Federation of Agriculture

In the case of the Agricultural Federation, we represent entities, or in many cases cooperatives, which today also have women as chairpersons or as board members. There are many women chairing grassroots organizations. This is now reflected in some way in the country’s leadership.

In my specific case, I have worked in the Agricultural Federation for many years. You could say that I have been tied to this agency my entire life, that is, I come from a federal family that is actively involved in this agency. Also, when I was thirteen, I first joined the Agricultural Youth Center, a center where young people and children of producers within the federation gathered.

This is how I have experienced various roles and paths within the agency over the years. Both at the local level, like in Bolivar in the province of Buenos Aires, and at the national level, as I have been responsible for the Federal Fund for Agriculture for many years. I am also responsible for leadership training for young people at the Youth Secretariat.

Joint Stock Company: Some of us older people remember what live auctions were, because it was the women who went there and interrupted those auctions to stop them, right?

In addition to the milestone of becoming the first female president of the foundation, there were other important milestones. One was in the 1990s, when many of our producers’ lands were confiscated and auctioned off in very critical circumstances. and Women are the ones who take up the flag and control the movement “Women in Struggle” prevented the auction from taking place and saved many producers, especially small and medium-sized producers, from field auctions.

New Agricultural Federation chief takes industry’s old demands to heart: ‘We must reduce financial pressure on all farming’

Another founding milestone relates to the Grito de Alcorta, the first land strike in Argentina in 1912. Maria Roberti. She was the one who coordinated some of the meetings and at one point called a strike. The first land strike gave rise to the Argentine Federation of Agriculture. so There is a transcendence in women that is invisible to many women.

Women’s increasing role in rural entities

Elizabeth Pegg(EP): What do you think is the contribution of women in the leadership of entities in this field? What are the main challenges you face when joining the liaison table within the framework of government agricultural policy?

I don’t know if it has any special characteristics due to gender status. Yes, women have different personalities when we put ourselves above the organization. This has to do with different leadership because Women are more active, more courageous, and more fighters. But at the same time, our character also reflects what we do domestically, what we do historically or culturally, which is also about dialogue and mediation.

Specifically, this is what it offers: new vision and growing change. I think, at least in the agricultural federation, that’s how federation membership makes me feel based on my female stamp. So, that look is also about moving forward, right? At critical moments in any situation, women are usually the ones who take the initiative.

Contact table meets female representatives for the first time: “This tax burden is suffocating us”

The challenge we face now is a critical moment, so I hope to be able to lead this process at a moment that is not easy for Argentine producers and farming families. It’s not easy, it’s not an easy moment because they’ve been through itOr the many variables that complicate life in the productive outback. I think we can leave a proactive mark on it and update and rethink strategic solutions in many areas.

Aims for new contact form involving women

Gabriella Maidana (General Manager): What central axes were discussed at the first official meeting of the newly formed Federal Contact Table on Agriculture during your presidency? I’m interested in learning about the key topics that will be discussed in the short term.

We met last week and set out what we today consider to be the central axis that will be critical in the short term. Working to address the issues that impact those of us represented by the four organizations, one of which continues to be the tremendous financial pressure we face, right?

We are in a crisis, with high input costs, high rents, falling international prices, sluggish foreign trade due to insufficient consumption, and great financial pressure. All this makes Many producers today have negative profit margins.

This significant financial pressure covers a variety of taxes and fees that impact our producers. But most importantly, we know that withholding remains a completely distortionary tax, and we have been opposed to being consolidated in this way over time.

The new liaison desk has female members for the first time in its history.

We believe now is the time to be proactive and consider how withholding taxes will disappear at some point. Because all we have done so far are promises or campaign promises that at some point they will be withdrawn and even proposed destinations for gradual, staged, various withholding tax withdrawals, but we haven’t had any response yet.

At the contact table we believe now is the time for us to work together to develop a workable proposal, Phase out tax withholding until it is completely eliminated at some point. We know that this takes time and cannot be achieved overnight. Despite Milei’s promises, we know it’s time to sit down and try some actionable proposals for eliminating withholding taxes.

This is an axis that cuts across us, and today, as I tell you, we believe This could be an important tax break for some producers Additionally, they are uncomfortable with the climate. It rained in most parts of central China in the past few days and the weather has eased a lot, but severe drought has occurred in other places. In these locations, the yields of wheat that has been planted, as well as the next crops being planted, such as corn and soybeans, are at risk.

“The weak exchange rate hurts the agricultural sector,” said the president of the Agricultural Federation.

So we know that this tax break generates profit margins so that producers don’t remain in debt and it doesn’t go away. Another axis that concerns us today is the European implementation of the 2030 Agenda for the marketing of agricultural products, which we understand as the Argentinian tariff regime, for which we must prepare.

In this sense, at the contact table, we believe that this year’s European extension of the entry into force of the entire traceability system for agricultural products gives us time to develop public and private tools to prepare Argentine producers. outside.

Joint Stock Company: Where do you feel comfortable from a political perspective?

I feel comfortable in the Farm Federation, that’s who I am. I am not and have never been a member of any political party. One of the challenges we face as a country is not to mix what we do as unions in this situation with party politics. Within the Federation, we have a very diverse political ideology I think that’s what we should stand for. I subscribe to fundamental principles related to the internal development of productive forces, beyond ideology.
