All municipal primary health care centers, mental health center, children’s and medical nursing hospitals, public health office and private medical centers that have expressed a desire will join the health center’s activities.
The institutions would cooperate with each other and thus ensure that all the health care services that the health center is required to provide are available to the residents. The institutions that expressed their desire to join the newly created health center agreed on the terms of cooperation and discussed the draft contract, and Klaipėda City Polyclinic, called the 3rd Polyclinic, was chosen by consensus as the center’s coordinating institution.
“By joining forces with medical institutions, I hope we will ensure greater availability of services and solve the issue of missing personal health care services, equipment and doctors of relevant specializations in the public sector.” It is a pity that this information is manipulated and presented as a fact that polyclinics will be located under one roof. I say responsibly that the creation of a health center has nothing to do with the construction or repair of a new polyclinic. On the contrary, the establishment of a health center, in which private institutions will also participate, will provide patients with high-quality, modern and accessible services in different parts of the city. The medical institutions that have joined the establishment of the center are located all over Klaipėda, and this opens the way for patients to receive services in a convenient place for everyone,” says Klaipėda Mayor Arvydas Vaitkus.
It is expected that participation in the reform initiated by the Ministry of Health in Klaipėda will open up greater opportunities to mobilize doctors of missing specializations, medical equipment resources, and increase the availability of necessary services for residents. The health center will combine primary and secondary health care.
After agreeing on the provision of all the necessary services last week, a draft decision will be registered already this week on the adoption of a final decision in the municipal council on the creation of such a center.
“The health center in Klaipėda is being created through functional cooperation. 7 institutions subordinate to the municipality will also participate in the activities of this center. This means that the necessary services for residents will be ensured through cooperation between institutions. We can already see that this will increase the opportunities for the residents to receive the necessary services and access specialists,” said Klaipėda Vice Mayor Vaida Raugelė.
When creating a health center, the municipality simultaneously evaluates the resources and infrastructure of its subordinate institutions. In order to improve the conditions for the provision of services, the repair of the building of the city’s largest primary health care center – the Klaipėda City Polyclinic is planned. Possibilities are being analyzed to rationally use all the spaces of the building, to reduce useless areas, to move other institutions currently operating in the polyclinic building, with a total of up to 300 employees, to other buildings.
It is expected that the overhaul of the polyclinic will start in 2026, the building will be able to be repaired in parts, so the operation of the polyclinic will not be disturbed during the repair. After the complete overhaul of the entire building, around 2028, opportunities will open up to concentrate an even larger number of necessary specialists and services here, and opportunities to create a strong medical center are being analyzed.
