THE Central Java (Jateng) CONTINGENT was confirmed as the overall champion of the XVII National Paralympic Week (Peparnas) in Solo, after winning medals until the last day, Saturday (12/10), it was impossible for them to be overtaken by the 34 other provinces who were competitors.

Even though there are still 20 sports left competing for medals on the last day, it is no longer possible for the Central Java contingent to catch up. Central Java’s medal tally up to 18.00 was 157 gold, 117 squares and 119 bronze.

The Elected Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia, Gibran Rakabuming Raka, who visited the boccia sports venue at GOR FKOR UNS Manahan Solo, Saturday (12/10) afternoon, congratulated the hosts of Central Java who succeeded in getting the most gold, until the last day.

West Java, which is in second place with a collection of 115 gold, 112 silver and 111 bronze, is no longer possible to overtake, considering that it is 39 gold medals behind Central Java. The DKI Jakarta contingent as of the last day at 18.00 was in third place with 39 gold, 29 silver and 36 bronze.

Until the last day of the medal hunt in the Solo edition of Peparnas, of the 35 contingents, there were three provinces that had not won any medals at all, namely Southwest Papua, West Sulawesi and North Kalimantan (Kaltara).

“The implementation of PEPARNAS

This edition of the quadrennial Indonesian Games for Persons with Disabilities will end and close on Sunday (13/10) evening. Vice President-elect Gibran plans to close Peparnas XVII, which has been running since October 6.

According to Jokowi’s eldest son, Peparnas XVII has had a positive impact on the city of Solo and its surroundings. In fact, he observed that the implementation of the Solo edition of Peparnas was still better than the Aceh-North Sumatra National Sports Week (PON) which had just ended.

“This event is actually a package with PON in Aceh-North Sumatra, and was designed to be impromptu. However, with all the available resources, the committee has succeeded in carrying out this activity safely and smoothly. I think it is better than PON,” added Gibran.

Meanwhile, the Acting Governor of Central Java, Nana Sudjana, was proud and appreciated the struggle of the Central Java contingent for their great achievements at Peparnas Soli.

Central Java’s track record in Peparnas since it was first held in 1957, has been the overall champion five times. The details are the winners of the 1957, 1959, 1984, 2008 and 2012 editions.

“It is certain that Central Java will become the overall champion of Peparbas XVII, of course it will be a source of pride for athletes and the entire people of Central Java,” added Nana Sudjana.

The official announcement of the Central Java contingent as the overall champion of Peparnas XVII Solo 2024 will be made at the closing ceremony at Manahan Stadium Solo, Sunday (13/10). (N-2)
