the Grand Inga project at the heart of the ECCAS strategy –

The “Energy” ministers of the member countries of the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS) met on October 8 at SIPOPO in Equatorial Guinea to discuss the thorny issue of the energy market in the region.

During the meeting, the Ministers followed the screening by the General Management of the Agency for the Development and Promotion of the Grand Inga Project “ADPI-RDC” of a film on the Grand Inga. They took note of this and affirmed that the anchoring of the Grand INGA project must be within the Economic Community of Central African States.

And to confirm their support, the Ministers instructed the Permanent Secretariat of the PEAC to develop a regular consultation framework with the General Directorate of the ADPI-DRC with a view to promoting the Grand Inga project among the Member States of the Community.

The Grand Inga Dam is a hydroelectric project on the Congo River in the Democratic Republic of Congo. It would be established near the site of the Inga Falls in the province of Bas-Congo, around thirty kilometers north of the town of Matadi. Two dams, Inga I and Inga II, already exist on the site.

There is another project for a third dam, called the Inga III project, which would take advantage of the site of the Inga I and Inga II dams. The Grand Inga project is of a different nature, requiring significant work and investments complementary to Inga I, II, and III.

The Grand Inga dam would allow the creation of a power plant with a power of 42,000 MW.
