David Alaba and the nation’s knee: Denial after report of impending career end

<a href="https://www.archyde.com/fc-barcelona-vs-real-madrid-when-where-and-at-what-time-do-they-play-for-the-spanish-super-cup-sports/" title="FC Barcelona vs. Real Madrid: when, where and at what time do they play for the Spanish Super Cup | sports”>David Alaba‘s injury status sparks wild speculation. After the Spanish radio station Once Cera speculated on Monday about further complications with the football star who injured his knee, there was a denial the next day.

The ORF reported on Tuesday afternoon in “Zeit im Bild”, citing the Viennese’s environment, that Alaba was making progress in rehab. However, a time for the Real Madrid professional’s comeback cannot be specified.

In any case, ten months have passed since he tore his cruciate ligament in December of the previous year. Alaba was most recently a guest at the Sporthilfe Gala in Vienna. The 32-year-old gave an update on his comeback efforts. “I really notice every day or from week to week that I’m making progress, that I’m feeling better and that I’m getting closer to my goal,” said the central defender.

Alaba has been back in running training at Real since the beginning of October. According to Spanish journalist Edu Pidal, the return will be difficult. Alaba was not able to finish training sessions normally, he told Once Cera. The Austrian has a loss of cartilage, which causes the bones in his injured knee to rub against each other. This causes Alaba “great pain”.

According to Pidal, Real assess the situation pessimistically. “Not only is there no expected date for the return, but they are already starting to think that it is possible not to see Alaba play in the Real Madrid jersey again this season.” There is concern in the club that Alaba will no longer be seen on the pitch.

“Complete nonsense”

The Italian transfer expert Fabrizio Romano then joined the discussion on Tuesday. He described the rumors about Alaba’s premature end to his career as “complete nonsense”. The rehab is going according to plan, the player, doctors and fitness trainers are satisfied with the healing process, Romano wrote on X.

It should come as no surprise that Alaba will probably no longer play a game in 2024. He emphasized in Vienna that he didn’t want to rush anything on his way back. “I haven’t set a time limit that it’s a month earlier or later. I want to come back at 100 percent.”
