Retirement of four generals including Lieutenant General Asif Ghafoor, Indian media focused on Pakistan Army – Pakistan

The Indian media has focused on the retirements and promotions in the Pakistan Army.

Rediff News, an online Indian journal, has claimed that four generals, including Lt. Gen. Asif Ghafoor, have retired and three to four officers are going to be promoted to the rank of Lt. Gen.

It should be noted that the public relations department of the Pakistan Army, ISPR, did not announce the retirement of the officers, however Redef claimed that four lieutenant generals, including the president of the National Defense University (NDU), Lt. Gen. Asif Ghafoor, retired. are done

Redef has claimed that Federal Public Service Commission Chairman Lt. Gen. Akhtar Nawaz, former Corps Commander (Quetta) Lt. Gen. Asif Ghafoor, Chief of Logistics Staff Lt. Gen. Saqib Mehmood Malik, Defense Secretary Lt. Gen. Muhammad Ali have retired.

An Indian media outlet claimed that the Pakistan Army has 24 three-star generals, with the report detailing their branch affiliations.

Out of the said 24 three-star generals, 13 are from infantry, two from engineers, one from air defence, five from armored corps, two from artillery and one from electrical and mechanical engineers. This suggests that three to four generals are likely to be promoted.

It should be noted that the number of lieutenant generals in Pakistan Army is never 24, this number is around 29.

Last month, Lieutenant General Muhammad Asim Malik assumed the post of the new Director General of Inter-Services Intelligence. According to reports, he is close to becoming the Army Chief.

Notably, Rediff misreported the positions of several military officers in its report.

Apart from Bahawalpur and Multan commanders, the positions of Adjutant General and Quartermaster General are also vacant and Army Chief General Asim Munir may make changes in his team in the next few days or weeks, the journal wrote.
