The General Commander of the Police BoliviaÁlvaro Álvarez, announced this Friday that the father of the alleged victim of human trafficking and statutory rape, in an investigation involving former President Evo Morales (2006-2019), was detained at his home in the department of Tarija.
This capture occurred after Morales’ absence from a summons from the Prosecutor’s Office to testify about the case, which took place on Thursday.
Álvaro Álvarez, general commander of the Bolivian Police, declared to local media that, at the moment, there is no arrest warrant against Evo Morales, leader of the Movement towards Socialism (MAS).
Yesterday (Thursday) a movement was generated, an arrest of one of the people who is being investigated. “He is the father,” explained the general commander.
Both Evo Morales and the parents of the alleged victim did not appear on Thursday at the Prosecutor’s Office summons to testify.
Given this situation, departmental prosecutor Sandra Gutiérrez stated that “an arrest warrant will be issued so that they can appear and provide their informative statement.”
Alleged victim of Evo Morales had a child with him
According to the complaint that has been filed with the Bolivian Prosecutor’s Office, Evo Morales would have committed the crimes of “human trafficking” and “rape” in relation to a minor, with whom he supposedly had a child.
The victim was allegedly part of a youth group known as ‘Generation Evo’, which was established by the former president during his presidency. It is alleged that her parents would have handed her over to Morales in exchange for political “favors.”
Social organizations close to Morales warned that, if the Prosecutor’s Office issues an arrest warrant against the former president, they will begin a national road blockade.
The former Bolivian president, currently distanced from the Government of Luis Arce, has declared that he will defend himself in what he considers a “legal battle”, arguing that it is a “political persecution” aimed at preventing his presidential candidacy for the 2025 elections.
