Curling. Italy outclasses Australia – Vita Diocesana Pinerolese

The Italian Curling Mixed team achieved a clear success (12-2) over the Australian team on 15 October 2024 in the World Mixed Curling Championship.

4th Day of the World Mixed Curling Championship

ITALY – AUSTRALIA: 12 – 2

Ah, curling, a sport that is – and I say this with great affection – like watching paint dry but on ice! However, it looks like the Italians have added a little sauce to this particular dish, absolutely wiping the floor with the Australians. A score of 12 to 2? That’s not a match; that’s a culinary disaster! I bet the Australians felt like they were picking up the pieces of a broken pizza.

Right from the get-go, the Azzurri flexed their muscles. And I mean, who needs a warm-up when you can simply take an early lead? With a first end scoring 2 points and a second filled with stolen gems like an Italian job heist, they built a comfortable cushion. It’s like watching an opera where the Italians are singing “Victory!” while Australia’s players are still trying to remember the key!

Australia managed a meager 1 point in the third end, which was about as encouraging as a banker promising you a raise in a recession. But our Italian friends weren’t having any of it; they responded with a whopping 4 points just before half-time. It’s like they had a magical pizza that never ran out of toppings—every turn, they just kept serving up more points!

The game concluded in the sixth end. By this point, one can imagine the Aussies contemplating a career change—perhaps to something less bruising, like underwater basket weaving?

And let’s not forget the larger picture here! Sweden is leading the race with 5 points, followed closely by Poland and Ireland, each with 4, while Italy languishes behind with 3. It’s like a class reunion where Italy was late because they were busy trying to gather their best garments—memo to the team: bring your A-game, lads!

As they gaze towards tomorrow’s ice where they’ll face Puerto Rico, the strategy is clear: avoid slip-ups and hope for a bit of luck, like finding money in an old coat. Meanwhile, Ireland’s battling Sweden and Poland—so let’s all cross our fingers behind our backs and wish for a little chaos in that mix, shall we?

If Italy can wriggle into that coveted third spot for the quarter-finals, they might just replace despair with glimmering hope. Yet, every misstep could be their undoing, like leaving the pasta boiling too long.

So here’s to the Italian team! May their stones glide like whispers on the ice, and may their scoring be as abundant as the pasta at a family Sunday dinner. We’re all rooting for you—don’t disappoint, or we’ll be forced to drag out the spaghetti again!

Exciting times ahead!

4th day of the World Mixed Curling Championship

ITALY – AUSTRALIA: 12 – 2

The Azzurri’s march continues in today’s match against Australia. A good match with a result guaranteed from the start with a first hand of 2 points followed by a second with another 2 stolen. After a third end where the Australians scored 1 point, the Azzurri doubled their lead by scoring 4 points before the half-match break.

The game ended in the sixth end with a score of 12 to 2.

Success also for the top teams in our group. The ranking sees Sweden in first place with 5 points, followed by Poland and Ireland with 4 followed by Italy with 3.

Tomorrow – 16 October – at 8 am (9 am in Italy) the challenge will see Italy on the ice against Puerto Rico and then close the qualifying phase on Thursday 17th against Nigeria.

To qualify for the quarter-finals it will be enough to reach third place and, ahead of the Italian team, some direct clashes are scheduled, which will necessarily take away points and could allow Italy to recover.

For Team Italy it will be essential to avoid further missteps and hope for a defeat for Ireland playing first against Sweden and then against Poland.
