The 2024 National Water Resources (SDA) Council Plenary SEEING produced a number of recommendations on strategic and actual issues regarding natural resource management in Indonesia.
The 2024 Plenary Session is chaired directly by the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment (Menko Marves) as Chair of the National SDA Council Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, accompanied by the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs (Menko Ekonomi) as Deputy Chair of the National SDA Council Airlangga Hartarto, Minister of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) as Daily Chair of the National SDA Council Basuki Hadimuljono, Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy (Menparekraf) Sandiaga Uno, and attended by all members of the National SDA Council.
“The importance of protecting and managing water wisely must also be understood as a preventive measure to face increasingly complex future challenges,” said Coordinating Minister Luhut in a statement in Jakarta, Tuesday (15/10).

Luhut emphasized that proactive water policies and management are needed, so as to minimize the risk of water-related disasters, increase environmental resilience, and empower communities to play an active role in maintaining the sustainability of water resources.
Therefore, the plenary session produced four Recommendations on Strategic Issues and Actual Water Resources Issues, including (1) Alternative Financing for Development & Sustainable Management of Natural Resources Infrastructure, (2) One Basic Drinking Water Tariff, (3) Conservation & Utilization of Natural Resources in the Area Peat, and (4) Development of Alternative Solar Energy in Water Bodies (reservoirs, lakes, other water bodies) and Beaches.
“One of the keys to Indonesia’s progress is efficient and sustainable water resources. The government ensures that all existing programs remain a priority, with a focus on climate change adaptation, strengthening coastal areas, equity and access to clean water in remote areas,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Daily Chair of the National SDA Council, Basuki Hadimuljono, also explained five agreements on the National SDA Council’s Work Proposals for 2024–2025. “The first is preparing policies, (second) preparing recommendations for strategic issues on natural resources, and (third) monitoring follow-up for the implementation of the National Natural Resources Policy and recommendations from the National Natural Resources Council,” said Basuki.
Fourth, continued Basuki, coordination of the National SDA Council with related parties in resolving disharmony in cases related to natural resource management, and finally, increasing the role of the National SDA Council at the international level.
It is known that the National SDA Council is a forum for coordinating water resources management at the national level which was formed in accordance with the mandate of Law Number 17 of 2019 concerning Water Resources.

Members of the National SDA Council consist of 18 ministers/heads of agencies from government elements, six governors from regional government elements and 19 representatives of organizations/associations from non-government elements, so that all stakeholders are represented.
The Plenary Session of the National Water Resources Council is an annual agenda as stated in Presidential Regulation Number 53 of 2022 concerning the National Water Resources Council. (Ant/N-2)
